October 17
Today, we put a lid on the Career Research unit. For the first twenty minutes of class, you need to make sure two things occur:
1) Make sure you have completed your slide for our slideshow--remember, I sent a link to the slide show to your school e-mail
2) Make sure you have completed your Career Research Project Packet.
We will then go through the slideshow together. Do remember, though, that you may be asked a question or two about your career. So, do be prepared that you may have to say a couple of words to the class.
If there is any remaining time, you should check StudentVUE and see if you still have any missing assignments--and then work on getting those completed and turned in. All missing assignments, excluding the project packet, will become permanent zeroes in the gradebook after Monday, October 20.
October 15
To start today's class you will be introduced to the final part of our project. That is a slideshow, but you are only needing to create a single slide. I have sent an e-mail to your school e-mail account. In that e-mail there is a link for our slideshow. You will need to fill in the information for the slide with your name only--and only that slide.
The remainder of our time today should have you completing your slide and completing the project packet.
October 13
Let's see if we can finish the last two elements of the project packet today. That means working on "Occupational Outlook" and "Final Reflection." If you finish, hold on to your packet, you will need information from it for an activity when we next meet.
October 8
Today, I want to make sure you have access to both the North Salem Course Catalog and the CTEC Course Catalog. By having access to these catalogs you will be able to see what classes are on offer at both schools--that is important for today's portion of the unit project.
Up next, it is time for the next two sections of the project. Please do your best to get through "Education and Training" and "Salary and Benefits." Use your time to get through these two sections, or if you are behind, work on getting as caught up as you can during this time.
October 6
If you are on track with our progress on the project, you should be working on filling out the "Working Conditions" section of our packet.
If you are a bit behind, don't stress. Keep working where you are at--finishing one section at a time.
October 3
First up today, another source for you to locate some of the answers for your project. If you have never used them, North Salem has access to the Gale Databases, which pull articles from journals, magazines, and more. A bit of searching in one of the many databases available here could help you find the answers you need.
The remainder of today's class is devoted to finishing the "Job Tasks and Responsibilities" section of your project and beginning the "Personal Values" section (with the hope of completing that one before you leave today).
October 1
We have Ms. Paola coming in to introduce herself and to explain how she can assist you in both our project and also any future hunt you have for a job.
We will then begin working on the unit project--with today's focus being on the section entitled "Job Tasks and Responsibilities." You want to get as far as you can in that section today.
September 29
Today you will be introduced to your Unit Project. We will take a few minutes to go over each section so you know what you will be asked to do as you begin your research.
September 26
Today is a work day. You need to make sure you have all of the following completed before we get into the career project next week: Career Explorations Worksheet, Career Clusters Worksheet, High School Jobs & Poverty Line Worksheet, and Aptitudes & Strengths Worksheet.
Complete and turn in any of the above that you have missing. My plan is to have them returned to you the next time we meet so that you can use them for the project if you need them.
September 24
Here is a link to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This site will be helpful in the activity we will begin working on today.
This second link comes from the same website as one of our aptitude tests. This can also be helpful in the activity we start today.
Here it is, the final activity before we get into our career project. You are going to fill out a Career Explorations Previews worksheet. In this sheet, you are going to look up four career options and write down a few things about the careers.
This activity needs to be completed and turned in by the end of class on Friday.
September 22
We looked at career clusters on Friday, and today you will filling out a career clusters worksheet that focuses on people you know in the various clusters.
You are also getting a quick introduction to Oregon CIS and how it can help you with your upcoming project. Oregon CIS can be accessed through North Salem's library's website.
September 19
Up first today, we are going to take a look at the most common jobs for high school students across the country. You will then have an activity (High School Jobs & the Poverty Line) to determine how many hours you would need to work in some of those jobs to be able to break the poverty line.
The second part of class will have you learning about Career Clusters. Next week we will do some work with career clusters.
The lasts part of class is yours to get caught up on any missing work--check StudentVUE.
September 17
Your focus today is on our second Aptitude Test (Link for the test here). Once you have completed the test, make sure to share the results with yourself (send to school e-mail).
Once you have completed the above, make sure to complete the second side to the Strengths and Aptitudes Worksheet. Once the worksheet is completed (both sides), make sure your name is on it and then place it in our period 7 in-box.
With the remaining time in class, check StudentVUE and see if you have anything missing. If you do, take time to get those items completed and turned in.
September 15
The first part of our short class has us looking at the concept of a career, and just what we mean when we hear the term. This will include a quick Post-It quick write and a short round of notes.
The remainder of the class period will be yours to finish filling out the worksheet for our first aptitude test.
September 12
Today begins with 20 minutes to complete either of our previous assignments (e-mail etiquette or Momento mori).
You will then get an introduction to Aptitude Tests, which is something we will be working with for the next few class sessions.
You will then receive a worksheet that you will begin filling out after completing your first Aptitude Test today. Keep the worksheet as we will be completing the second side with our next aptitude test next week.
