HECPS--Unit 2

November 7
The first thirty minutes of class today is devoted to making sure you have completed and submitted the following items to turnitin.com: resume, cover letter, mock job application.  Scores for each of those will be put into the gradebook early next week.
The second portion of the day will have you getting used to the concept of a job interview.  We will go over the things you should do at an interview, and I will talk you through things I have experienced on both sides of the "table."
You will then be given an Interview Worksheet/Packet.  Today, I wan to focus on completing the first page only.  This link to Career One Stop will help you respond to the four sections on the first page.

November 5
First up today, we are taking a look at what it means to Look Like A Winner at your interview.  You want to keep this in mind, because you want to look the part when we conduct the mock interviews later in this unit.
Next up, you will be filling out a mock job application.  The nice thing about this one is that you can download it once you have completed it, save it, and use it for reference when you are applying for jobs down the road.
When you have finished the application and downloaded it, you will then need to submit it to turnitin.com.

November 3
Still working on getting the resumes and cover letters completed and submitted to turnitin.com

October 31
Today is a work session to make sure you have both your resume and cover letter completed.  Remember, you need to submit each of these items to turnitin.com.  A Reminder on how to do that is below:
In your Google Doc click on "file."  Click on "download."  Choose PDF.
Next step: in turnitin, head to your assignment and click "open."  Scroll down and then click on "browse files."  On the top left of the box that opens, click on "recent."  Your PDF should appear.

If you finish both items and submit both before the end of class, you can use the remainder of today's time to work on assignments from other classes.

October 29

First up, let's take a look at those resumes.  It's time to finish, revise, and then submit to turnitin.
We will then move into the idea of the Cover Letter.  We will begin the process of building the cover letter today, and you will be pretending that you are applying for the career you researched during our last unit.  We will try and complete the rough draft of the cover letter today, and then work on finalising things early next week.

October 27
Today, we are going to work on building your resume.  The slideshow will walk you through each step until you have finished your resume, and it will even talk you through how to submit it on turnitin.com.

October 20
Today sees us begin our next unit, which is all about applying for a job.  That means we will be looking at resumes, cover letters, job applications, and interviews during this unit.
For today, we are focusing on two things.  First, you need to create an account for turnitin.com.  This is where we will be submitting many of the assignments for this unit.  I will walk you through the creation of your account, but if you are not here, you will want to check in with me as soon as you can.
Next up, we will take a look at the resume--these notes will help as you build your resume next week.
Finally, you will receive a resume prep worksheet.  Have this completed by the time I see you next Monday.  The information from that worksheet will help make building your resume easier.
