February 20/21
Today begins with our last story time.
Up next, you have the remainder of the class period to complete your Picture Book Project. Remember, once you submit to turnitin.com, you can view your text and see the marked errors. You can then correct those errors on your original document and then re-submit (through 11:59p.m. on your due date).
February 15/16
Today begins with your penultimate story time.
Up next, we will take a few minutes to get you enrolled in this course on turnitin.com.
The remainder of today's class is yours to continue working on your Picture Book Project. Make sure you are making progress. It is due next week Tuesday/Wednesday.
February 13/14
We will start the day with a short reflection activity for our I Was So Mad work. From there, I will give you your next story time.
Now, it is time to learn about your picture book project. The project will be due by February 20/21.
Here is a checklist of things to keep in mind while working on your project.
The remainder of our time today is yours as a work session to start brainstorming ideas for your project.
February 12
Today is all about your I Was So Mad activity from last class. Today, you are going to break up into small groups and engage in a little story time. Each of you will be reading your version of the story to a small group from your class. Each of your listeners will fill out a Peer Response sheet, which will given to you next class.
February 8/9
Today will begin with our next Story Time. Remember, these readings I am giving are to help you see/hear how to structure a children's picture book. So, please pay attention as I read.
Up next, we take notes on Morals & Lessons in Books. These notes will help you focus your thoughts when you start building your picture book.
Finally, you have an activity. You are needing to create the words to a previously published picture book--I have just taken away the original words. This assignment is due before you walk out the door today. If you are absent, you will need to come in to get the activity (I can't put it up online).
February 6/7
Today starts with some notes on Terms Back to Haunt Us. These are terms that popped up in Creative Writing I and are going to be important throughout this semester.
Up next, it's an introduction to our first unit: Picture Books.
To finish up the day, there is a second set of notes. These focus on different types of Writing for Kids. This will give you an idea of what age group you are focused on--depending on what you are creating.
February 5
Today starts it all for us. Just a quick introduction to the class and a reminder that we are focusing on short fiction of many genres this semester.
We also completed a Pass-Along Story Activity just to get your creative juices started.
Syllabus can be found here.
