Unit 1: Picture Book

Two Opportunities:  1) Sijo Poetry Contest.     2) Haiku Publication       Both are due by the end of February

February 17

Today is your last day in class to be working on your Picture Book Project.  If you have your project completed before you leave class today, make sure you submit it to turnitin.com.

February 12
Let's start off by getting you hooked up to turnitin.com for the semester.
The remainder of today's time is for you to work on your Picture Book Project.

February 10/11
One final story time before you get into your project.
For your Picture Book Project, remember that you are creating a manuscript in the format that would be used if you were sending it to a publisher--so make sure you pay attention to the format. Your project is due Thursday/Friday February 19/20.
The remainder of today's time is yours to begin working on your manuscript.

February 9
Today, we are heading down to the library for you to give a reading of your I Was So Mad story.  You will be broken into small groups.  You will then take turns reading your story to each other.  Listeners, you will fill out a feedback form after each reading.  By the time we leave the library, I will collect all feedback forms and stories.  I will then get those returned to you within the next couple of days.

February 5/6
     We'll being with Storytime!
Okay, something a bit more educational--notes on Morals/Lessons in children's literature.
     And then...Storytime!
Finally, you will work on creating the words to an already published picture book.  I will be giving you a copy of the I Was So Mad activity in class.  You want to have this completed by the end of the day.

February 3/4
First up, let's look at some terms that are back to haunt us.  Just trying to bring these terms from Creative Writing I back to your brains.
From there, it is story time!  I am going to read you a couple of stories today.  Your job is just to listen.
Our last set of notes today focus on Writing for Kids, which is what this unit is all about.

February 2

Welcome to Creative Writing II.  After a quick look at what will be happening this semester, we are going to begin with a Pass-Along Story--you remember how to do it.
