April 23/24
Today is all about getting your peer reviews completed. Remember, you need to complete two to earn full credit for the activity.
Once you have completed your peer reviews, use the remainder of the time revising your story. Remember to look to see what your peers had to say, it could help you improve your story.
April 22
For those who have completed and submitted their rough draft, today you can begin working on your peer reviews. This activity is found on your Rough Draft course at turnitin.com. Completing two reviews gives you full credit for the activity.
For those who still need to complete their rough draft--use this time to get it done and submitted. Remember, the sooner it is in the more likely you will have it assigned to someone for review.
April 18/19
Today is your last full day to work on your Horror/Monster Story Project. Remember, the rough draft needs to be submitted by Monday. If enough people submit before then, I will open the peer review session early.
April 16/17
It is another full day to work on your Horror/Monster Story Project. You will be able to start submitting your rough draft to turnitin.com today--in your Rough Draft Course.
April 15
It's a full class period of working on your Horror/Monster Story Project. You will be able to start submitting your rough draft to turnitin.com on Tuesday.
April 11/12
Up first, let's use your monster profile sheet for a purpose. You are going to write a drabble using your monster.
Next, it is time to introduce you to your Horror/Monster Story Project. Remember, for this project, the rough draft is due by April 22 and the final draft is due April 25/26.
The remainder of today's time is yours to start brainstorming and working on your project.
April 9/10
Today has you building two stories.
First up, let's take a look at creating a story about your favourite monster.
Second, you need to conduct a little research before you can write a story about a literary monster.
I would like both of these stories completed and turned in before you leave class today.
April 8
Let's start getting into the monster portion of our unit. We'll begin with notes on Characteristics of a Monster Story.
From there, I will be giving you a Monster Profile sheet to fill out. As you are creating your monster, make sure you add the detail. Yes, you can use a type of monster that exists in literature already--just do something new with it.
April 4/5
Let's begin with a look at Gothic Literature. This is a solid horror subgenre to try out.
Up next, you will receive your second story for this unit: "The Werewolf." As before, answer these questions in your notebook. We will talk about the story when you have finished.
Finally, you will have one more short horror writing activity. This Teenage Terror assignment is due by the end of class.
Teenage Terror Assignment:
Create a flash-fiction horror story that involves teenagers (they always need to bump off a few teenagers in these stories).
Your story should come to a solid conclusion, but that does not necessarily mean a happy ending.
April 2/3
Time to read. "The Monkey's Paw" is a classic horror story. You will be taking time today to read the story. As you are reading, make sure to answer these questions in your notebook. We will talk about the story when you have finished.
The second activity today has you writing a horror drabble. This Quick Horror needs to be completed and turned in before you leave class today.
April 1
Let's start the day by looking at some subgenres of horror. These notes might help you refine what type of story you would like to write.
We will follow this up with a quick activity in which you think about the Best Horror Stories You Know. This will lead to a quick discussion about some of these stories.
Finally, we will end the day with a set of notes on the Fear Factor. Once again, these notes are designed to help you as you begin building a horror story.
March 19/20
Today begins with 30 minutes to complete any of your Sequel Unit tasks (two sequel assignments and the project).
Up next, we will take a look at the Eight Points to Building a Horror Story. These notes will help you as you begin thinking about writing a horror story.
