Unit 3--HOrror/Monster Stories

April 9
First, let's have a quick writing activity with A Quick Horror.  Save this paper, you can write a second writing activity on it later in class.
Next, we take a look at the classic Gothic Literature genre.
We will then start adding some monsters to our horror with a reading of "The Werewolf."  Read the story and respond to these questions in your notebook.  We will then discuss the story.
To end the day, we will have one more writing activity.  This one will be a Teenage Terror.
     Teenage Terror
--Create a flash-fiction horror story that involves teenagers (they always need to bump off a few teenagers in these stories).
--Your story should come to a solid conclusion, but that does not necessarily mean a happy ending.
I will give you 25 minutes.

April 7
It's time to finish and submit your publication copy of your fantasy story.  I will begin final editing and formatting tomorrow.
The last part of today's class will find us coming back to the horror genre with a look at The Fear Factor--a set of notes.

April 6
Continue working on the publication copy of your fantasy story.  I will let you know how I need you t submit those drafts to me in class tomorrow.
Also, if you have not yet given your story a title, make sure to do so soon.

April 2
If you submitted the final draft of your Fantasy Story, you need to work on the following:
Take a look at my comments/feedback and make needed corrections to your story.
Once done, read over your story and make any revisions/edits you feel are needed.
Run your story through Draft Coach, and make corrections until Draft Coach says you are awesome.

If you have not submitted the final draft of your Fantasy Story (I shake my head at you), you need to work on the following:
Finish and submit your fantasy story.
Hope that I take the time while I am at my grandmother's funeral to look at, and leave feedback for, your story so that you can do the "stuff" in green on Monday.

March 31
To start things today, we are going through a fairly quick activity on Horror Stories You Know.  You will need your notebook and eventually your voice for this activity.
That will be followed by a short round of notes on the Subgenres of Horror.
Finally, we will spend time with the horror story "The Monkey's Paw."  You are going to read the story, respond to these questions in your notebook, and then we will have a class discussion.

March 30
Up first, I will be giving updates on your Fantasy Story, which will include dates for final revisions and submission for inclusion in our book.
One done with that, I will get you started on your Horror/Monster Unit.  We will begin with the horror side of things.  Our opening notes are on the Eight Points to Building A Horror Story.
